To resolve printer troubles, it is important to know which kind of printer you are dealing with. Most homes and offices use inkjet printers and laser printers.

Inkjet printers use real liquid ink, which is released through tiny print head holes. These printers are, generally speaking, the best at blending color, and print very high quality photos. Inkjet printers print at a fairly slow speed, but can print on many different types of paper.

Laser printers use a light source to project an image onto a rotating cylinder called a photoreceptor. Static electricity causes toner to stick to the image on the cylinder, which is transferred to paper quickly using heat. Laser printers are fast and precise, however almost all models print only in black and white.
